33/365 Introducing Red Dress Someday's
I've been thinking obsessively (as I do) about the kinds of images I want to shoot over the next 11 months and at some point this week I remembered the dress you see here. It's a stunning Lisa Ho creation that I wore to my year 10 formal way back when...
In hind sight I was probably a little to young to pull off the dress - old photos make me cringe as a little 15 year old me attempts to pull off some kind of warped sultry expression - all smokey eyes, shiny forehead and pouty lips - reminiscent of what I considered to be 1930's hollywood glamour. Nevertheless wearing it has always made me feel like a million dollars and thats all that matters really.
The vibrant colour, the drape of the material, its silky caress barely a breath skimming over your skin. The sweep of the skirt; a cascade of ripples clinging to the past whilst the rest of you sashays into the future. Oh and never to be forgotten, the life force it radiates, the ecstasy it exudes - the force all its own - when you dance.
This dress is the embodiment of everything I am loving about life; it's vibrant and alive, outrageously sexy yet demure, loud and ostentatious yet also graceful and elegant. It's mystery, it's freedom it's joy and it's playfulness, rebelliousness and intelligence, all wrapped in one decadent package.
It's like standing at the edge of a precipice the wind at your back, its the spay of salty water high into the air as the full force of the ocean meets the sudden cliffs of the land. It is more than the thousand words one picture can tell.
So today I'm starting my "Red Dress Someday's" where one day per week for the remaining 11 months (or as long as I feel is appropriate) I will challenge myself to stick to this one dress, to capture it's life and loves in the space of a few thousand pixels and see what we can create.
Okay, so totally that was totally over the top but oh so fun to write.
Much love,
D.
